Dr Shamil Wanigaratne
Consultant Clinical Psychologist
Dr Shamil Wanigaratne has worked in the NHS for over 20 years in
the community and in hospital based treatment of addiction. Since
1988 he has been responsible for the development and provision of
the teaching input on Addictive Behaviours to the University
College London and North West Thames RHA. For the last nine years
has been Head of Clinical Psychology of the Addictions Division at
South London & Maudsley NHS Trust. Shamil has extensive
research, teaching and speaking experience and is recognised as a
leading practitioner in his field. He has, in collaboration with
colleagues, published numerous articles and papers in psychiatric,
clinical and addictions publications across Europe. He also wrote
the only British therapist’s manual on relapse prevention.
