Dr David Bremner
Medical Director
Dr Bremner has worked with Winthrop Hall since soon
after its inception and was appointed to the position of Clinical
Director, responsible for the treatment programme at Winthrop Hall.
His passion is to ensure Winthrop Hall provides an outstanding
therapy programme that is evidence based and built on proven
techniques to give every client the best chance of success. David
leads our collaboration with the South London and Maudsley NHS
Trust and our involvement in ongoing research with The Institute of
Psychiatry and the National Addiction Centre. He is assisted in the
clinical programme by two consultant psychologists, Dr Luke
Mitcheson and Dr Shamil Wanigaratne.
Before joining Winthrop Hall, David was a consultant
psychiatrist in the NHS in East London having developed an interest
in addictions whilst working in the field of transplant medicine in
London. After training as a psychiatrist at the Royal Free
Hospital, North London, he became a member of the Royal College of
Psychiatry, and then went on to gain further recognition as an
Addiction Psychiatry Specialist through University College London.
Recognising the diversity of addictions he sought experience from a
range of different services in his training. This has given him
extensive experience in the treatment of addiction in both inner
city environments and across the Home Counties, within the NHS and
independent providers, and in the UK and abroad.
