The programme
The addiction treatment model that we are providing
is based on a traditional Minnesota model, also known as
the 12 Step oriented model with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
(CBT). This is supported further by the Family therapy or
Systemic therapy approach.
The 12 Step approach is grounded in the concept of substance
misuse as a spiritual and medical disease. In its basic and
original form it consists of self-help groups that in the case of
Alcoholics Anonymous are widely available throughout the country. A
variety of related models have evolved, which range in intensity
from structured out-patient to intensive multi-modal residential
rehabilitation approaches of several weeks’ duration, such as the
one that we are offering. Further explanation of the
supporting therapies to our 12 Step treatment model is listed
below.
There is a strong evidence base that 12 Step programmes are most
successful in achieving abstinence and are used throughout the
country in both residential settings and across the world
in the out-patient forum. The 12 Step model was devised in 1933 in
Minnesota, USA and has evolved over the years, but the basic twelve
steps remain the same. Whilst our approach is based on the 12
Steps, each individual's care plan is related to their
personal needs and is constantly evolving.
Clients will be offered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),
cognitive analytical therapy and relapse prevention therapies.
Motivational interviewing techniques will be used as well as
several metaphorical therapies. These may include tree planting,
team building activities and an opportunity to participate in
various leisure pursuits of a specialist nature. All clients will
receive individual psychotherapy as well as the above-mentioned
group therapy. The mainstream therapies described will be
supplemented by various ancillary therapies, for example
acupuncture, massage therapy, reflexology and yoga.
Each client's treatment programme will be individually tailored
to reach the most appropriate balance between the various
therapeutic components. Clients can be reassured that treatment for
their alcoholism or drug addiction is delivered not only in a warm,
friendly, well functioning therapeutic community, but also in a
high quality, stylish and comfortable clinic.
Medical support is provided through access to a physician 24
hours a day, twice weekly GP clinics provided at the centre to deal
with minor ailments and the back-up offered by a local private
hospital.
